Just Presence

Just Presence

I’ve been thinking a lot about how to show up in the world. How do you show up when you’re meeting someone for the first time? How do you show up if this person doesn’t know your history, where you went to school, the things you’ve accomplished, where you’ve lived/traveled, your hobbies/preferences/how many followers you have on Instagram??

How do you show up when you have nothing? Like literally when you’re naked. If you were stripped of everything that made you “you” - what would be left? It’s just presence. That’s all we really have. Is our presence.

Presence itself is divine. To be truly present is to be turned on and tapped in. Presence is looking someone in the eye, fully listening, and not running a story in the background. Presence is being curious and full of wonder. It’s trusting that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. It’s breathing fully and knowing that God is inside of you.

But really, it’s a crazy world out there. It’s a world that could take away your home, your job, your money and all the buffers you’ve built up to keep yourself “safe.” What happens when you have to run away and leave everything behind. How do you show up then? It’s all temporary. Our things and our status. Who are the people who will be at your side when everything gets taken away? That’s tribe. Real tribe.
